Shimane's Tea Culture
Shimane Prefecture, a tea-consuming region, has had a tea ceremony culture rooted in the common people since ancient times, particularly in the Izumo region. Matsue City, in particular, is said to have a widely disseminated tea ceremony culture among the common people due to Matsudaira Fumai, the 7th lord of the Matsue domain and a daimyo tea master, who mastered the tea ceremony and founded the "Fumai-ryu" school.
