Old-fashioned Green Tea: Raiden
Izumo-style "Raiden" sencha from yesteryear is a "guri-cha" (tamaryokucha) that recreates the flavor cherished in the Izumo region during the mid-Meiji period, using expert firing techniques. By applying heat more slowly than with regular sencha and finishing it while preserving the shape of the tea leaves, we have brought out a delightful aroma and a deep, rich body. Its robust flavor does not break down even when brewed with hot water, and its deliciousness lasts for 2 to 3 infusions. In the summer, brewing it cold further enhances the unique sweetness of guri-cha. Enjoy a blissful cup that brightens your daily life, while contemplating its history.*Packaging may be subject to change.
◎Guri-cha = Tea leaves that are dried in a curled, rolled state. Since it takes a little time for the tea leaves to open, you can enjoy it with hot water without much bitterness.
◎Raiden Tameemon = The great sumo wrestler Raiden, who shone in the sumo history of the Edo period, was an undefeated wrestler with 25 championships and 254 wins and 10 losses in total. It is said that he was employed by Matsudaira Fumai, the 7th lord of the Matsue domain and a daimyo tea master.
