Old-fashioned Green Tea: Raiden

Raiden, our "old-style sencha with an Izumo flavor," is a "guri-cha (tamaryokucha)" that recreates the taste cherished in the Izumo region during the mid-Meiji period, using expert firing techniques. By applying heat more slowly than with regular sencha and finishing it while preserving the shape of the tea leaves, we've brought out a fragrant aroma that tickles the nose and a deep, substantial richness. Its robust flavor remains stable even when brewed with hot water, and its deliciousness lasts for 2 to 3 infusions. In summer, brewing it cold further enhances the unique sweetness of guri-cha. As you ponder history, enjoy a blissful cup that brightens your everyday moments.

◎Guri-cha: Tea leaves that are dried in a curled, rounded state. Since it takes a little longer for the tea leaves to open, you can enjoy it with hot water while suppressing bitterness.

◎Raiden Tameemon: Raiden, a yokozuna who shone in Edo period sumo history, was an invincible sumo wrestler with 25 championships and a total record of 254 wins and 10 losses. He is said to have been retained by Matsudaira Fumai, the 7th lord of the Matsue domain and a daimyo tea master.
