For its production, we received design suggestions and advice from Mr. and Mrs. Koizumi Bon, who are the great-grandchildren of Koizumi Yakumo.

◎ About "New Orleans Vendor"

Around 1880, while Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) was working as a journalist in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, he serialized caricatures and poems in a newspaper called "Daily City Item." This print was carved by Lafcadio Hearn on the back of an old woodblock with a pocketknife with two types of blades, and the title of the drawing is "A Very Early Morning Call." As an ethnographer, he was fascinated by the lifestyle of the Creole mixed culture and took great interest in the everyday scene of fruit vendors' appearance and calls.
