Hachijuhachiya Shincha (Eighty-eighth Night New Tea) is a special new tea, harvested on the 88th day from the beginning of spring, that heralds the arrival of early summer. Due to the recent global increase in demand for matcha, tea farms in Japan are rapidly converting from growing sencha to growing tea leaves for matcha. As a result, high-quality sencha leaves like last year's have become extremely rare this year. While we originally hoped to offer three or more varieties of our Hachijuhachiya Shincha as we have in the past, after pursuing a quality we could be satisfied with, this year we will be offering a limited sale of a "single, exceptional Hachijuhachiya Shincha" carefully selected by our tea masters from these rare tea leaves.
